When King Gojong Built Geoncheonggung, he dug out a pond to the south of it and built this pavilion for relaxation. He named it Hyangwon-Jeong which means far reaching fragrance pavilion.

Originally the bridge called Chihangyo was connected to the north of the pavilion. However it was replaced to the south when it was restored after the Korean War.

대한민국(한자: 大韓民國, 듣기 (도움말·정보))은 동아시아의 한반도 남반부에 자리한 공화국이다.

서쪽으로는 황해를 넘어 중화인민공화국, 동쪽으로는 동해를 넘어 일본이 있으며 북쪽은 조선민주주의인민공화국과 맞닿아 있고 한국 전쟁 이후 휴전 중이다. 수도는 서울특별시이다.

한국 전쟁 이후 한강의 기적이라 불리는 경제적 발전을 이루어냈다. 1960년 1인당 국내 총생산은 82 미국 달러로 우간다와 비슷한 수준이었지만, 2012년 1인당 국민 총소득은 $22,708달러로, 이웃 국가인 중화인민공화국의 5배 수준으로 성장하였다. 2012년 기준으로 명목 국내총생산은 세계에서 15번째 규모이며, 1인당 국민소득은 2만 달러를 돌파하여 세계은행에서 고소득 국가로 분류하고 있고, IMF에서는 선진 경제국으로 분류하고 있다. 경제 협력 개발 기구, 개발 원조 위원회의 회원국이기도 하다.
